Stud Benchmarking
- Pooginook has leading sires entered in the Merino sire evaluation.
- Pooginook had three client flocks entered in the Peter Westblade Memorial Merino Challange in 2010.
Breeding for performance
- All the breeder ewes are visually classed before joining.
- The hogget ewes are classed at 15 months and about 60% are retained by the stud.
- All ewes and rams in the stud are micron tested each year as an aid to selection.
- Ram and ewe weaners are body weighed at weaning and 300 days as well as fleece weighed and micron tested.
- All stud performance recording is submitted to Sheep Genetics to compile ASBV's to assist with classing and client ram selection.
Data Recording
- Electronic Identification (EID) was implemented at Pooginook 2008.
- All Stud performance records are kept using Practical Systems "Stockbook" software.
- Stock handling facilites include auto drafting capabilities to maximise the potential of EID and data recording.
Eye muscle and fat scanning
